The Catalina Sanctuary Choir and The Helios Ensemble share a beautiful and diverse set of carols for its Lessons and Carols Program. Carols include Magnificat, composed in 2016 by Alexander L’Estrange, featuring a soaring, lyrical melody atop luscious jazz chords, all accompanied by a haunting organ part. Another piece with organ, Seek Him that Maketh the Seven Stars, begins with a dazzlingly, virtuosic organ figurations, evoking the twinkling of the seven stars of the Pleiades cluster. The ever favorite carol What Sweeter Music, by John Rutter, will also be sung with string quartet, as will the ethereal Savior from on High by Steven Paulus with harp and oboe. Finally, the rousing spirituals Sing Noel, and Go Tell It on the Mountain will round out the set of carols.
